What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture needles are very tiny and disposable. They are placed in points along your body’s meridians. Meridians are the interconnected pathways throughout your body that connect to all your internal organs and govern your energy flow. The needles are conducting and activating your own energetic response (your life source) to unblock and heal you. Acupuncture is only one modality in TCM.
When you arrive at our clinic, we will examine and question you to conclude your diagnosis. We will look at your tongue, take your pulse, palpate your abdomen and ask questions to define your diagnosis or what in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is called pattern discrimination. In TCM we treat your own individual pattern, not disease.
In order to activate your life source, which is what will unblock you and heal you, you must feel something. When the tiny needles are placed, it should not be painful but we do want you to feel some sensation. Every point has a slightly different feeling depending on the location. If you do not feel anything, it is not working. If your nerves are damaged, you will feel less until they are regenerated.
Once the needles are placed, all you do is relax and breathe. Visioning yourself in the optimal health condition that you desire is also very helpful. You need to imagine yourself out of pain, so you convince your body to go there.
The needles are left in for 10-40 minutes depending on your condition. You will use this time to relax and breathe and visualize. Acupuncture is quite profound and will result in amazing cures if allowed. It is important to not talk during this time but just focus on the breath and see if you can feel the needles working.
After the treatment, drink lots of water and take it easy. Let the treatment continue to work. The effects of one treatment can last up to a week. You should feel improvement in your condition after just one treatment. After three treatments, we will know how fast this modality will alleviate your symptoms. Most of the people I treat eventually come once a month for treatment or as needed. This is a wonderful way to prevent your symptoms from returning and to maintain your optimal health.
